Application Procedures for Entry into Japan

1. Concerning Application Procedures for Entry into Japan

  1. 1) When the Immigration Department has issued the "Certificate of Eligibility" to the successful Applicant for entry into JILC, and after confirmation of the remittance of the Tuition Fee plus a portion of the accommodation expenses, JILC will send via air-mail or EMS, both "Certificate of Admission" and Certificate of Eligibility" to the Applicant himself or to the 'Intermediary Agency'.
  2. When the successful Applicant has received both "Certificate of Admission" and "Certificate of Eligibility", he/she must apply for the "College Student Visa" at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate. The Applicant has to bring with him/her the following documents: both "Certificate of Admission" and "Certificate of Eligibility", Graduation Certificate(s), documents to substantiate the Applicant's financial ability for self-support while studying in Japan, original copies of the 'Household Register' and 'Birth Certificate', etc. It is advisable to contact the Embassy or Consulate first, in order to confirm whether other documents are needed. The Consular may request the Applicant to attend an 'interview', in order to confirm the applicant's 'determination', or to check the Japanese language proficiency of the Applicant
  3. The "Certificate of Eligibility" is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. According to the Regulations of JILC, if there is no other specific reason, you are required to apply for the "College Student Visa" immediately after receipt of both the "Certificate of Admission" and "Certificate of Eligibility", otherwise your entry into Japan will be very much delayed.
  4. The Applicant who has been issued the "Certificates of Eligibility" is requested to make his/her flight reservation, so that he/she will disembark at Fukuoka International Airport on the date specified by JILC. JILC staff will be at Fukuoka International A/P to welcome you. If you fly into Fukuoka on other dates, you may have to find your own way to JILC.

2. Various Procedures After Entry into Japan

  1. 1.) After entry into Japan, the Student has to apply for his/her "Residential Card" and "Health Insurance Certificate". JILC will assist in all matters pertaining to such procedures.
  2. After your admission into JILC, and after 'class allocation', you are not allowed to request for a 'change' of class or course.
  3. The 'allowance' from the part-time job ('arubaito') will not be sufficient to support you throughout your course. For the first 3 months from the date of your entry into Japan, you are NOT allowed to be engaged in any part-time job. When you have obtained the official "Permit to Engage in a Part-Time Job" (to be stated as 'The PERMIT' hereafter) , issued by the Immigration Department, ONLY then you are allowed to take up a part-time job. This "PERMIT" is issued on two conditions: 1) the student must have achieved the minimum required 'School Attendance Rate', 2) such part-time job does not hinder the study of the student. If any student is 'caught' doing any part-time job without "The PERMIT", the Student and the 'employer' will be punished by the Law. (The Student may be sent home immediately).
  4. When any Student is 'caught' to be engaged in any "illegal" part-time job, or is reluctant to attend class, or has infringed on the "Rules and Regulations" of JILC, or has been found to be involved in any criminal offense, and his/her "College Student Visa" has been revoked, then he/she has to leave JILC and return home.
